Garden in Auvers — Vincent van Gogh

A large Impressionist canvas print in green and blue. Its cool green density and quiet enclosure suit a wellness space, dining room or private study, bringing a sense of sheltered, growing calm to the room.

Visual Presence

Seen from a high vantage with no sky, a garden unfolds as a patchwork of green lawns, dense dark foliage and oval flowerbeds dotted with pink, white and red blooms. A pale path threads through the centre in flecks of blue and gold, a small green watering can standing beside it. The palette is lush and verdant — deep greens and olives lit by warm ochre, soft pinks and scattered reds in vigorous, dabbing brushwork.

About the Art

Vincent van Gogh painted this garden view during his final months at Auvers-sur-Oise, north of Paris, where he settled in May 1890 and worked at an extraordinary pace until his death that July. Drawn to the village's abundant greenery and flowers, he produced a series of intimate garden and landscape studies in these weeks. Here he adopts a steep, plunging viewpoint that omits the sky entirely, pressing the beds, lawns and paths into a densely woven tapestry of colour. The dabbed, broken brushwork recalls the pointillist handling he had absorbed in Paris, turned to his own restless purpose.
