Common questions
What materials and techniques do you work in?
Hand-painted in-house on 600 gsm linen canvas. Mediums include acrylic, ink, and mineral colours. Techniques range across impressionist brushwork, gestural marks, controlled layering, and atmospheric washes. Finish options: rolled, stretched, or Australian oak floating frame.
What styles do you work in?
Classical, impressionism, expressionism, realism, abstract, contemporary. the studio's practice spans both representational and abstract work — share your reference direction in the brief and we confirm whether the style is in scope before quoting.
How big can it be?
1 metre to 6 metres on the long edge. Single-piece on canvas up to 2 × 3 m. Two-panel formats for anything beyond 6 m. Smaller than 1 m is not offered for original commission — use Colour & Layout Editing on a catalogue artwork instead.
What should the brief include?
Required: wall dimensions (width × height + ceiling height), palette direction (paste image links or hex codes — no verbal descriptions), and a deadline.
Strongly helpful: mood references, style preference, indicative budget, room photos, the story or intention behind the piece. The more specific the brief, the closer the concept lands on round one.How long does a commission take?
Concept stage: 1–3 weeks (depending on revisions and clarity of brief).
Painting: 4–8 weeks once concept is approved, scale-dependent.
Delivery: 1–4 business days (insured AU) or 2–4 weeks (international rolled freight). End-to-end typically 6–12 weeks from brief approval. How many concept rounds are included?
Two rounds of concept refinement are included. The first proposal is either a digital mock-up or a reference debrief with past-work examples. Round two refines based on your feedback. Further rounds are quoted on file.
Will I see progress while the painting is being made?
Yes — one mid-process check-in by photo so you're not surprised at delivery. If you'd like more frequent updates (weekly progress photos, video walk-through), say so in the brief and we'll arrange.
What is the deposit and refund policy?
50% deposit confirms your slot and triggers the concept stage. The deposit is fully refundable up to concept sign-off — if no concept resonates, you walk away. Once you approve the concept, the deposit is non-refundable and painting begins. Balance is due on dispatch.
What if the finished painting doesn't match the approved concept?
The concept sign-off binds both sides — the final work should faithfully execute the agreed concept. If there's a material deviation from the approved concept that we can't resolve, we discuss remedy (revision, partial refund, or replacement). In ten years of commissions this has not been needed; the mid-process check-in is designed to catch any drift before the final layers.
Can I commission a specific subject — portrait, landscape, narrative?
Yes. Send the subject, references, and any personal or narrative context in the brief. We confirm scope before the deposit so there are no surprises. For personal references (a person, a pet, a specific place), include several reference images from different angles.
Do you accept commissions for commercial or hospitality clients?
Yes — hotels, hospitality groups, BTR developers, art consultants and interior designers are welcome. For commercial briefs, mention the project type and any installation context (lobby, function space, suite, residence) in the brief. Trade pricing applies to verified trade accounts.
Who owns the copyright?
You own the physical painting and the right to display, exhibit, and resell it. Wall Liberation retains reproduction rights (prints, image licensing) unless you commission as a buy-out — agreed in writing at the brief stage for an additional fee. For commercial use (advertising, branded merchandise), licensing terms are quoted separately.
