The Prophet — Christian Rohlfs
A huge Expressionist canvas print in blue and brown. The white beard and the two lifted palms hold the middle of a deep ultramarine ground while everything around them stays dark, so a feature wall, a living room or a hotel reception gains one pale figure carrying the full height of the wall instead of a flat painted surface.
Visual Presence
Printed two to three metres tall the old man's raised hands sit well above your own head, so a feature wall or a stairwell reads as if something is happening at the top of the room rather than hanging on it. The picture is mostly deep ultramarine and rust, so it throws almost no light back — it pushes the wall backwards and leaves the pale beard and the two palms as the brightest things in the space, which is why it wants one lamp aimed at it rather than an evenly bright room. From the far side only that white column of beard and the two hands carry; walk up and the surface breaks into scrubbed blue, rust and orange strokes with the canvas weave showing through them.
About the Art

We chose it for what a painter near seventy did with the third year of the war. Rohlfs had been unable to paint when the fighting began; what came back was not landscape but prophets and biblical figures — here an old man with his mouth open and both hands thrown up, shouting over a second upturned face at the bottom of the canvas. Twenty years later the Nazis hung seventeen of his paintings in the 1937 Degenerate Art exhibition and expelled him from the Prussian Academy. The Kunsthalle zu Kiel bought this one in 1954.

Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
