Bride's Toilet — Amrita Sher-Gil
An oversized Modernist canvas print in brown and red. The warm ochre ground fills most of the canvas and two red clay pots sit low at the bottom corners, so a hallway, a hotel reception or a bedroom wall picks up a steady terracotta glow, while the five figures all lean inward and keep a long wall quiet instead of busy.
Visual Presence
Printed close to three metres wide, the ochre-brown ground throws a low, warm light back into the room, so a hallway with no window of its own reads lamplit rather than dim. From the far side of the space only three things carry — the two red pots at the bottom corners, the pale bare back of the seated bride in the middle, and the two green blouses either side of her — everything else settles into the brown, which is why the print holds a wide wall with nothing hung beside it. The figures come out near life-size at that scale and every one of them is looking down and inward, so the wall draws people towards it instead of pushing at them.
About the Art
Amrita Sher-Gil (1913–1941), Modern, painted 1937. Amrita Sher-Gil (1913-1941), Indian modernism, painted 1937. We chose it as the piece of her South Indian trilogy that was built for a wide wall: five figures set out in one unbroken frieze across the canvas. She painted it after touring the south and after seeing the cave frescoes at Ajanta, and the debt is visible — a flat earth-red ground, no perspective depth, each figure drawn in outline and filled with colour rather than modelled in light. It is oil on canvas, 88.8 by 146 centimetres, and the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi holds it, accession ngma-00069.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
