The Temptation of Christ — Christian Rohlfs
A giant Expressionist canvas print in gold and black. The warm cream-gold field pushes the room's own light back up the wall while the one red figure holds the centre at standing height, so a living room, an entryway or a hotel reception gains a tall anchor instead of a blank vertical run.
Visual Presence
Printed two metres tall, the cream and gold ground throws warm light back into the room, so a living room reads softer and brighter with it up rather than darker, despite how much black sits in the picture. From the far side of the space only two things carry — the red robe standing upright and the heavy dark shape pressing against it — which is why this fills a tall wall on its own instead of needing a group of frames around it. Up close the paint is ridged and scraped back to the weave, so raking light from a lamp or a window catches the surface and the wall keeps shifting through the day.
About the Art

He was fifty-two when Karl Ernst Osthaus gave him a studio in Hagen in 1901, on the estate that became the Museum Folkwang, and he was the first artist to work there; meetings with Munch and Nolde and the sight of Van Gogh turned him. He was in his mid-sixties when he painted this, breaking Christ and the tempter into scraped strokes. In 1937 the Nazis expelled him from the Prussian Academy and hung seventeen of his paintings as degenerate art. Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
