Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!) — Henri Rousseau
A huge Jungle canvas print in green and olive. Its coiled energy and stormy drama command a boardroom, gallery wall or statement entrance, holding a large space with presence and tension.
Visual Presence
A tiger crouches low among wind-lashed grasses and fronds, teeth bared and body coiled, its orange-and-black stripes vivid against a sweep of storm-bent green. Slanting silver rods of rain and a flash of lightning rake a darkened grey sky, while foliage bends in a single driven direction. The palette is charged and stormy — massed greens under grey, lit by the warm burn of the tiger and a scatter of red bloom.
About the Art
Henri Rousseau painted Tiger in a Tropical Storm as the first of the jungle scenes that would define his art, conjured entirely from Paris — its botanical hothouses, illustrated books and taxidermy — rather than any tropical travel. He rendered the driving rain as fine diagonal threads laid over the whole surface, and the wind-flattened grasses give the still canvas its charge of movement. The subtitle Surprised! leaves it deliberately open whether the tiger stalks unseen prey or is itself startled by the storm. The painting is held in the National Gallery, London.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4 cm (1.57 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
