Unstable Compensation (Unfester Ausgleich) — Wassily Kandinsky

A large Abstract canvas print in green and red. Its poised geometry and warm-against-dark contrast make a striking focal point for a boardroom, executive office or gallery wall, anchoring a considered, design-literate interior.

Visual Presence

A large disc floats against a deep, textured blue-green ground, its face divided into a crimson quadrant, a fan of ochre-gold arcs and a softly mottled cream half marked by a single dark bar. Below, the circle balances on a slender olive triangle, steadied by floating orange and grey rectangles and a small pale pyramid at the base. The palette is warm and earthen — red, gold and cream held taut against an enveloping midnight teal.

About the Art

Wassily Kandinsky painted this composition during his years at the Bauhaus, where he taught and pursued a rigorous geometric language of circle, triangle and line. The circle, which he regarded as the most expressive of forms, dominates the design, quartered into contrasting fields of colour and texture and set upon a triangle so that the whole seems poised on a single point. The title speaks to that precarious poise: a balance achieved through tension rather than symmetry, the heavy disc held aloft over its narrow support. Rendered in oil on board, the work is held in a private collection.
