Green and Orange Composition — Paul Klee

A tall Modern Abstract canvas print in green and orange. Its narrow format and grounded, verdant palette suit a stairwell, a boardroom pier or a quiet corner in an executive office where vertical calm is wanted.

Visual Presence

Overlapping rectangles rise in a slender vertical column, layered in deep forest green, khaki and soft olive with two clear blocks of warm orange lighting the left edge. A small dark-blue crescent hovers at the upper right against near-black shadow. The washes are translucent and matte, one plane bleeding gently into the next, so the whole holds a quiet, tonal, architectural calm.

About the Art

In his Bauhaus years Paul Klee built abstraction from the coloured rectangle, tuning each block against its neighbours the way a composer sets one note beside another. Between about 1921 and 1923 he worked deliberately with what he called false colour pairs — green with orange among them — layering translucent planes so overlapping shapes deepen and modulate by hand rather than by rule. A composition of stacked greens warmed by orange and cooled by blue reflects that documented method, in which balance of tone and weight carries the picture more than any depicted subject.
