Krumau — Egon Schiele

A large Expressionist Abstract canvas print in green and white. Its rich, restful greens and intricate detail suit a library, study or wellness space, offering an absorbing, contemplative focal point.

Visual Presence

A cluster of houses climbs a green hillside, their roofs pitched at angles in slate, terracotta and rust, with one violet-pink gable and one bright red facade standing out among white walls. A pale grey road curves in from the left through dense, banked foliage under a soft fawn sky. The palette is deep and verdant — layered greens threaded with warm ochre, brick red and touches of lilac.

About the Art

Egon Schiele painted the Southern Bohemian town of Krumau, his mother's birthplace, many times, and here builds the settlement into an interlocking mosaic of gabled houses embedded in dense hillside greenery. Seen from above, the roofs tilt and overlap in expressive distortion, their whites, ochres and reds set against banks of trees rendered in fine, textural strokes. A pale grey road threads the composition, drawing the eye up through the greenery to the crowded roofline. Schiele favours organic, tapestried surface over faithful topography, letting architecture and landscape knit together. The painting is held in a private collection.
