Green Wheat Fields, Auvers — Vincent van Gogh

An extra large Impressionist canvas print in green and white. Its fresh green energy and open sky suit a wellness space, dining room or corporate reception, bringing vitality and a sense of open country to the room.

Visual Presence

A young green wheatfield surges across the foreground in swirling strokes of emerald, sap-green and teal, flecked with tiny yellow flowers. Above it a pale sky of soft cream and lilac is stirred by curling blue clouds and coiling gusts of wind. The palette is fresh and vivid — vibrant greens rolling beneath a cool, luminous sky, the whole surface alive with looping, wind-driven movement.

About the Art

Vincent van Gogh painted Green Wheat Fields, Auvers in the spring of 1890, shortly after arriving in Auvers-sur-Oise following his year at the Saint-Rémy asylum. Wheatfields were among his most enduring subjects, and here he captured the crop while still green and unripe, rippling under a restless breeze. The looping strokes of the sky and the rhythmic sweep of the field show the intensity of his late manner, in which paint and gesture carry as much feeling as the scene itself. It was among the works painted in the weeks before his death that July. The painting is held in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
