Two Heads — Paul Klee

A large abstract canvas print in yellow and brown. Its warm, playful intimacy suits a living room, study or consulting room, giving the wall a quietly human presence.

Visual Presence

Two angular profiles face inward, built from flat planes of pale yellow, pink and dove grey — a single dot for each eye, a small red mark for each mouth — the whole image sitting in a field of saffron ochre. The faces are barely faces, yet there is a clear sense of two beings holding each other in the same gaze.

About the Art

Klee is doing more with less here than almost anywhere else. Reducing the human encounter to its simplest geometry — plane, dot and mark — he shows how little is needed to convey relationship and recognition, the emotional charge carried entirely by colour and placement rather than likeness. This is Klee's late mastery of the geometry of feeling.
