Leaves and Red Fruit — Paul Klee

A large Abstract canvas print in purple and yellow. Its brooding, quiet palette and upright plant motif suit a study, a wellness room or an intimate dining space that rewards slow, close attention.

Visual Presence

Against a deep plum-brown ground, three upright forms rise like a plant: a paired grey-green leaf, a curved lemon-yellow petal, and a rounded red fruit balanced on a slender white stem. Below them a broad rounded hill of soft grey-lilac fills the foreground, crossed by a dark drawn arrow that ends in a little wheeled cross. The palette is muted and earthy, the pale mass set glowing against the sombre surround.

About the Art

Paul Klee returned throughout his career to plant and fruit motifs, paring leaf, stem and fruit to a few outlined forms set in a dark, dreamlike field. He moved freely between watercolour and gouache, favouring heavy contour lines and simple invented signs — arrows, wheels and glyph-like marks — that drift between the pictorial and the written. A spare botanical arrangement anchored by a drawn arrow reflects that documented tension he prized between the natural and the invented.
