Odalisque aux magnolias — Henri Matisse
A huge Fauvist canvas print in pink and green. The striped green divan runs the whole width of it and the sleeping woman lies along the full length in warm pink, so a living room, a bedroom or a hotel suite gets one long horizontal band of colour where the wall was empty, with the white magnolias the single bright stop in it.
Visual Presence
Printed two to three metres wide, the green and olive stripes under the figure throw a shaded, garden-like light along the wall, so a living room reads cool and slow rather than lit up. From the far side of the room only three things carry — the long pink body, the green band beneath it and the mauve-grey wall behind — which is what lets one print hold a wide sofa wall instead of a group of small frames. Standing close, the turquoise dabs in the wallpaper, the white magnolias and the bowl of red peaches in the corner come forward, so the wall keeps giving something back as people cross the room.
About the Art
Henri Matisse (1869–1954), Expressionism, painted 1923. Henri Matisse (1869–1954), Fauvism, painted 1923. We chose it as the odalisque that outranks the rest: when the Rockefeller collection came to Christie's in New York on 8 May 2018, this canvas set the highest auction price ever paid for a Matisse. The model is Henriette Darricarrère, who sat for him in Nice from 1920 to 1927, and the room around her is a stage set he built himself from screens, striped cloth and cut flowers. Christie's reads the magnolias and the fruit as natural pattern answering man-made pattern — a place of rest rather than tension. Oil on canvas, 60.5 by 81.1 centimetres.

Each print is custom stretched and framed at our Melbourne facility. Every piece is cut and assembled by hand, to ensure the highest quality finish.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
Production: 1–3 weeks depending on finish (rolled fastest, framed longest).
