Speckled Ground with Buildings (Paris period) — Wassily Kandinsky

A large Geometric Abstract canvas print in gold and blue. Its warm ground and delicate detail suit a study, boutique hotel room or a dining space, bringing subtle warmth and quiet intrigue to an intimate interior.

Visual Presence

A warm, finely speckled peach ground holds a scatter of quiet incident — a blue bar and yellow patch across the top, a pale cloud pierced by a crimson dart beside a violet disc, and a black grid-block to the left. Below, brown and grey rectangular masses rise like buildings, traced by a curving double line ruled with tie-marks. The palette is soft and earthen, warm ochre carrying blue, yellow, red and violet accents.

About the Art

This sheet reflects the manner Kandinsky developed after settling in Paris in 1933, where his abstraction grew softer and more atmospheric, favouring speckled, granular grounds and small, precisely placed forms over the hard geometry of his Bauhaus years. Ruled lines, dotted fields and floating shapes recur across his work of this moment, arranged in a light, almost weightless balance. The block-like masses and threaded line at lower right lend a faintly architectural suggestion. The period and method are documented; no specific record of this individual work was verified.
