Visual Presence
A range of high peaks catches the first rose-pink light of dawn, floating above a deep expanse of blue that fills nearly the whole canvas. Layered foreground ridges recede in cobalt and indigo into soft mist, with only the distant summits burning warm against the cool. The palette is overwhelmingly blue — cobalt, azure and shadow — lit by the single band of glowing pink snow.
About the Art
Kanchenjunga — the third-highest mountain on earth, its Tibetan name meaning the Five Treasures of the Snow — was a subject Nicholas Roerich returned to across his career, one he had loved since a painting of the peak hung in his family's estate near St Petersburg in his boyhood. From 1928 he lived and worked in the Kullu Valley of the western Himalayas, where he founded the Urusvati research institute and painted until his death in 1947, reducing the great snow ranges to broad tonal planes of luminous colour. His Himalayan canvases render the peaks as remote and elemental, bound up with the spiritual vision of the mountains that occupied his later life.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4 cm (1.57 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
