Mahana no atua (Day of the God) — Paul Gauguin
A huge Symbolist canvas print in pink and blue. The rose-pink shore and the pool of yellow, orange and teal at its base pour island colour across a dining room, living room or hotel reception wall, while the dark idol at the centre keeps the whole scene still.
Visual Presence
From across the room the wall reads as bands of colour — deep sea blue above, rose pink through the middle, the molten yellows and teals of the pool below — so one canvas warms and cools the space at once. In daylight the pink shore lifts a dining or living wall the way late-afternoon sun does; under evening lamps the yellow pool keeps the glow going. The dark silhouette of the idol gives all that colour a still centre, so the wall stays calm even at three metres wide.
About the Art
Paul Gauguin painted this Tahitian vision in Paris, from fantasy and memory, shortly after his first voyage to the island — the Art Institute of Chicago calls it one of the most abstract, avant-garde works of his career. A deity presides over the shore while the figures, grouped in twos and threes, read as symbolic forms rather than portraits; at their feet the water dissolves into interlocking pools of acidic colour, decades ahead of abstraction. Edgar Degas bought it straight from Gauguin's studio exhibition. It now hangs in the Institute's Helen Birch Bartlett Memorial Collection. We chose it for that pool — the moment Gauguin let colour break free of the world.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
