Claude Monet's Water Lilies and Agapanthus — from his late Orangerie Décorations, where rising flower stems break the pond's horizontal calm, on oversized fine-art canvas.

Visual Presence

Tall vertical composition: lily pads float low across deep green-blue water at the base, while above them the long stems and pale violet-blue flowers of agapanthus rise out of the pond's surface. The brushwork dissolves into loose Impressionist strokes — touches of lavender, pink and emerald reflecting light back into the depths.

About the Art

Claude Monet painted Water Lilies and Agapanthus between 1914 and 1917 as part of his late Grandes Décorations cycle, designed for the oval rooms of the Orangerie in Paris. By this point his cataracts were advanced, his palette had shifted toward purples, violets and emerald, and the agapanthus motif was introduced to break the strict horizontal of earlier pond paintings. The vertical pull of the flower stems anchors the composition while the lily pads dissolve below — a structural device that distinguishes this group from the more uniformly horizontal Nymphéas.

The verticality reads as quiet uplift; well suited to a stairwell wall, narrow lounge bay, hotel suite vestibule or wellness consultation room.
