The Ten Largest, No. 7, Adulthood — Hilma af Klint

An XL abstract canvas print in yellow and purple. Its monumental golden forms glowing on soft lavender bring a serene, contemplative focus to a boardroom, wellness space or dining room wall.

Visual Presence

The pale lavender ground keeps the wall light and contemplative, while the three vast yellow seed-forms give the room a single warm, sunlit centre that carries clear across the space. Up close the fine lettering and looping lines reward a pause; at distance the piece reads calm and monumental. It suits a wall that needs presence without noise — a study, a reception, a stair landing.

About the Art

Hilma af Klint executed the Adulthood paintings of The Ten Largest at a scale rivalling church murals — each sheet roughly 328 by 240 centimetres, in tempera, a medium she admired in the altarpieces of Florentine churches — and that devotional scale is why the image translates so naturally to an oversized print. No. 7 sets vast yellow seed-like forms against a lavender ground scattered with green orbs, spirals and written characters. The series belongs to The Paintings for the Temple, the visionary cycle produced through her spiritualist practice with the group The Five. Long hidden, it is now held by the Hilma af Klint Foundation and exhibited internationally.
