About the Art

Anthony Oberman painted this portrait of De Vlugge ('The Fast One') in 1828 for Adriaan van der Hoop, an Amsterdam banker and renowned art collector. Oberman, a Dutch painter known for his careful equestrian portraits, specialised in capturing the prized horses of the wealthy. De Vlugge was van der Hoop's celebrated trotter, recorded here against the open Dutch landscape of meadow, sky, and distant church spire. Van der Hoop's vast collection of paintings was bequeathed to the city of Amsterdam in 1854 and now forms a core of the Rijksmuseum's holdings.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4 cm (1.57 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.

Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.

For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.

If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.

Examples:

A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.

This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
