Fakir Taming Snakes — Bohumil Kubišta
An oversized Expressionist Abstract canvas print in orange and green. The broad salmon and terracotta planes carry the length of a hallway wall with no cold gap in them, the dark green leaves and the blue-green snake on the right keep a living room from going flat and orange, and the small white sailing boats on the blue water at the top give a hotel reception or boardroom wall something worth walking up to.
Visual Presence
At two to three metres wide the salmon and terracotta ground throws a warm, late-afternoon colour back down a hallway, so a corridor with no window of its own reads lit rather than narrow. The dark green leaves and the band of blue water along the top break that heat into cooler patches, which is what stops a living room reading as one sheet of orange. From the far side of the room it holds as a warm crouching figure bent over a coil of blue-green, and only from a metre away do the white sailboats, the red flower and the ridged snake's head separate out of the pattern.
About the Art
Bohumil Kubišta (1884–1918), Expressionism, painted 1915. Bohumil Kubišta joined the Austro-Hungarian army two years before he made this, so the late work comes from a serving officer, not a full-time painter. We chose it because it takes his Cubo-Expressionist language, hard facets and hot colour, and turns it onto a subject far from the Prague still lifes and street scenes around it: a snake charmer with his pipe, a snake rising out of its coil, a harbour of small sailing boats behind them. Kubišta had taught himself optics and philosophy and built his pictures from colour and geometry. It is a small panel in the National Gallery Prague, which is why it repays printing large.

Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
