Composition II — Theo van Doesburg
A large Cubist canvas print in blue and red. Its pale blue field spreads the room's own daylight back across the wall while two deep red triangles hold the centre, so a living room, a study or a hotel reception gets one hot point of colour on an otherwise cool, quiet wall.
Visual Presence
Printed two metres tall, the pale blue-grey ground works like north light on the wall, so a living room or a study reads cooler and calmer with it up rather than heavier. The two deep red triangles are the only hot colour in the picture and they sit at standing eye level, so from the far side of the room they are what lands first and everything else settles behind them. The dark navy mass down the right gives the wall a weight to balance against, which lets the print hold a wide empty wall on its own without a group of frames around it.
About the Art
Theo van Doesburg (1883–1931), Modern, painted 1916. Theo van Doesburg (1883–1931), De Stijl, painted 1916. We chose it because the Thyssen-Bornemisza calls this group of four still lifes the turning point in his move to abstraction — the objects survive only as discs, wedges and bars pinned into a pale blue field. The vocabulary is Cubist, out of his reading of Cézanne, and the triangles that dominate every still life in the series are read by Christopher Green as Kandinsky's symbolism arriving in Dutch painting. A year later he launched the journal De Stijl, and painting like this, curved and hand-brushed, was behind him. Oil on canvas, 45 by 32 centimetres, inv. 526 (1978.64).

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
