Norwegian Landscape — Konrad Mägi

A large Expressionist canvas print in green and orange. Its saturated northern colour suits a living room, boardroom or hotel lounge, filling the wall with forest light and stillness.

Visual Presence

The forest floor erupts in pointillist dots of orange, magenta and ochre; slender birches rise like ribbons of light; the dark water at the centre sits perfectly still. Painted thickly, in jewel tones, the surface holds the eye between blaze and calm.

About the Art

Painted during Mägi's Norwegian period, when the Estonian master was at his most colour-saturated. His hand sits somewhere between Munch and the Fauves but remains unmistakably his own. Mägi is the painter the rest of Europe is still discovering — Estonia's most important early modernist, finally receiving the recognition that eluded him in life.
