Visual Presence

A tall column of interlocking rectangles balances a red block against a deep cobalt-blue panel, threaded through by a dominant black vertical stem. Warm grey borders and a smaller inset blue square frame the design, with a soft coral-pink block anchoring the base. The composition reads as a clean, upright arrangement of primary colour and black against a bare, paper-toned ground.

About the Art

Fernand Léger developed designs of this kind as part of his sustained interest in mural and architectural decoration, a strand of his work that ran alongside his easel painting and culminated in the monumental mosaics, stained glass and wall commissions of his later years — among them the mosaic facade at Plateau d'Assy and the crypt mosaic for the American memorial at Bastogne. A project for a mosaic distils his machine-age vocabulary into flat, interlocking planes of colour, structured so that pure colour and simple geometry could organise architectural space. From the early 1920s Léger was preoccupied with the relationship between colour and architecture, and studies such as this show that thinking worked out on paper.

This design adds 3 cm to the overall dimensions of the print, creating a refined and modern presentation.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4 cm (1.57 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.

Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.

For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.

If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.

Examples:

A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.

This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
